Ants, like the bees and butterflies, regularly visit flowers to feed on nectar. Plants that are favorable to ants usually have small subtle flowers, are low growing and have flowers positioned near the stem. Although sometimes considered a nuisance by gardeners, ants can be effective pollinators as they help distribute the pollens that attach to their bodies to other plants. They can also act as repellents to certain destructive insects for some flower species.
