It seems Bollywood is high on a current formula i.e. sex, lots of cuss words, violence and some story from the real world in the name of inspiration, art or whatsoever. Eventually, they combine all the elements to dish out a so called commercial film for the audience that rakes in high moolah. Hence, Barfi…came as a pleasant surprise – a refreshing film that you can watch with your family without cringing with discomfort. You know… sort of movies that were crafted earlier in the 1960′s and 70′s. I did hear it’s a mix of extracts from here and there, but it did not deter me from watching it.

So having watched it now, I do not regret. It’s a sweet innocent love story with elements of humor and pain. The colonial era. The beautiful small town charm of Darjeeling, and simplicity of its characters leave a very subtle impression on your mind. There were instances of course, where I admit I was constantly reminded of Charlie Chaplin’s histrionics. However Ranbir did manage to justify the performance without looking silly or melodramatic. So for me Barfi was entertaining, light and a feel-good movie – a simple one that gently tickles you, makes you fall for someone as naive, yet adorable as Murphyy… (you will have to watch the film to identify this bit)
