There are 28 urea producing units in the country and out off this 28, 20 are gas-based fertilizer plants while the rest are fired by the more expensive naphtha, fuel oil, low sulphur heavy stock or furnace oil. The Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) has accorded highest priority to gas-based fertilizer plants and accordingly the petroleum ministry, in consultation with the Department of Fertilizers (DOF), has allocated 15.668 MMSCMD of gas produced from the RIL's Krishna-Godavari KG-D6 block to various fertilizer plants for the year 2012-13.
The plant-wise allocation is as under:-1. NFCL's Kakinada-I and II (Andhra Pradesh): 1.749 MMSCMD
2. Kribhco, Hazira (Gujarat): 1.370 MMSCMD
3. GSFC, Vadodara (Gujarat): (0.720 MMSCMD)
4. IFFCO, Kalol (Gujarat): 1.273 MMSCMD
5. GNFC, Bharuch (Gujarat): 0.342 MMSCMD
6. NFL, Vijaipur-I and II (Madhya Pradesh): 0.610 MMSCMD
7. RCF, Trombay-V (Maharashtra): 0.950 MMSCMD
8. RCF, Thal (Maharashtra): 2.1 MMSCMD
9. Deepak Fertlizer (Maharashtra): 0.178 MMSCMD
10.CFCL, Gadepan-I and II (Rajasthan): 1.150 MMSCMD
11.SFC, Kota (Rajasthan): 0.620 MMSCMD
12.IFFCO, Aonla-I and II (Uttar Pradesh): 1.750 MMSCMD
13.IFFCO, Phulpur-I and II (Uttar Pradesh): 0.520 MMSCMD
14.KSFL, Shahjahanpur (Uttar Pradesh): 0.978 MMSCMD
15.TCL, Babrala (Uttar Pradesh): 0.880 MMSCMD
16.IGFL, Jagdishpur (Uttar Pradesh): 0.478 MMSCMD
Total: 15.668 MMSCMD
If you notice, KFCL name is not there in this list as the unit at Panki Kanpur does not need gas for 2012-13. However, it requires 2.10 MMSCMD for 2013-14. The GAIL pipeline for gas supply is expected to be ready by June 2013.
