While you guys were busy outraging about Guwahati molestation, poking Aamir Khan and mocking his every other move I had a rather subdued and low profile June-July. At ease people. Its not a diatribe against Aamir or those people who write open letters. Relax. Things have been moving pretty slowly at my end. I don’t know about you guys, but I have found myself being enveloped with a bubble-of-monotony. I eat. I sleep. I wake up. I talk. I walk. Same shit. Every other day. Can you imagine?I try too hard to break the chain. I brainstorm about things that can add a bit of spice to my routine. I prepare a story board. I come up with a sequence. But the same sequence becomes mind numbingly boring in a week’s time. In simple words, its fuckin BORING.
The only saving grace – Twitter [my twitter handle]. My dear Twitteratis, I owe you big time.
In other news, I’ve completed 5 full years in this industry. When I look back at the years, I gotta say, I haven’t done that bad. I am quite content with what I am today except for the ever eluding travel opportunity. When I started at Infosys, I was as nervous as anybody. Computers were never my thing. I did have my own personal computer at home but that was used primarily for movie watching, beginner level gaming and other-activities-that-shall-not-be-revealed.
In many ways, Rahul Dravid and I share a similar work ethic. Runs never came easily to him. Likewise, even I had to work hard to understand even simple concepts. Like him, I had this habit of over complicating things.
During our training, we were once asked to write a piece of code for a Library. List a few books. Allow people to borrow. Manage inventory, returns and borrowings. Plain vanilla requirement. Right? But I wrote the code in such a way that it would allow you to borrow a book which is not even there. The inventory ran in negative numbers. Funny no..! Anyways, that’s 5 years ago.
Even today, I suck. I still do, although hopefully less every year. I don’t know if it was by design or an acquired habit. I have this knack to remember and revisit things. Helps me to recollect my mistakes so that I don’t make them again. *thanks heavens*
So that’s on the professional front. Drastic changes are happening at the work place. More on that later.
On the personal front -
- I did manage to go on a vacation to Kerala. Disappointed to have missed out on the house boat stay but apart from that, it was fun.
- I have developed a new hatred for scotch whiskey. Somehow, I find the smell severely puke inducing.
- Surprisingly, I did manage to pose reasonably well for a few photographs. That’s one thing I am never good at.
- Did my first air travel.
- Stayed at a 5 star hotel. Just for a night ;-)
- Now, I have my own TV. :) :) A relief it is what it is.
And before I leave, just wanna ask you guys this - How would you react if the date you wish to forget and the date you wish to remember coincides?
For instance, your birthday coincides with your exes wedding anniversary, or your first day at job coincides with her puppy’s birthday. Something like that. You get the point right?
Help me out no? I am out on a limb here.
Adios!
