Walter Duncan ( 1820-1905 ), first went into business in Calcutta way back in 1859. He didn't know it, but he was sowing the seeds from which would grow a dynamic group of companies. Over centuries they would carryhis family name - Duncans.
From begining in tea, the Duncans name has spread to jute, chemicals, beadwires, wooltops, fertilizers, industriel and engineering products.
Duncans has truly become a household name in the sub-continant. Duncan has created a nitche for itself in the very competitive markets of cigrettes and tobacco.
Company's achievement over the last centuryindeed make it look bacj in pride and at tomorrow as a renewd challenge.
A Calcutta based industrielist, GP Goenka, chairman of Duncans Industries, took over this business of Walter Duncan and retained his name to gain the popularity of Duncans Logo. Though it had sold out its kanpur fertiliser plant to Jaypee Group amd now focussing itself mainly on tea production business.
