Watching Lockout Author : Kumar Luv Blog :Vakrokti Date: 7/12/2012 5:02:00 PM Netflix Summary: A former government agent wrongly accused of a crime gets a shot at freedom -- if he can engineer a high-risk mission to outer space in order to rescue the president's daughter from a prison where the inmates are in control.…Escape From New York meets SiFi. Sounds like a really simple, nonsensical plot that would be a perfect setting for some glorious action set-pieces to unfold. But this turns out to be a spoofish parody of all SiFi cliches they could fit in. And, nonsensical does not begin to describe it – at every possible point the film takes the most stupid turn. The filmmakers decide not only to ignore physics, but also to ignore common sense. It is a surprise that despite such a drag of a script, Guy Pearce manages to deliver a superb performances – his character written on lines of Die Hard's John McClane manages to be slightly entertaining despite the obvious attempt from the filmmakers to make him annoying.Well, the film could have been mildly entertaining despite all it flaws if it could have at least created an spectacle – after all that's the point in sacrificing intelligence. But the special effects have a video-game like feel and are utterly unimpressive. Think of a prison colliding with the International Space Station – boy! That would look like something – well, it doesn't. And our leads simply parachute to Earth's surface from just outside the atmosphere – or is it the upper atmosphere? I am not too sure. And, with 490+ prisoners breaking out, why don't I see more madness all over?Luc Besson, whats happening to you?
