Fear or No Fear

Well, I am clearly not talking about the popular game here. However, fear can cause a great deal of damage in the game of life. Be it your originality, creativity or confidence, all is suppressed before the monster of fear of all kinds, fear of failure, fear of being made fun of, fear of people. You lose to yourself way before the start of the battle. But it doesn’t always have to be this way. Even life has cheat codes to win guys! You just need to find and apply them. Here are a few we found from our experience.

1.       Know and Acknowledge: The first step of mitigating your fears is to know and acknowledge them. Figure out what is it that you fear and why. Many a times we approach our fears with a sense of denial. But what it really does is to confuse you, if anything, rather than helping you out. Confess your fears to yourself and acknowledge them. Also, try to find out their origins. Only then can you come up with the appropriate action plan to mitigate them.

2.       Think and Evaluate: Whenever you feel the fear vibes, try to calm yourself up. Think and evaluate the legitimacy of your fears. Are they really worth it? What is the worst thing that can happen? Is it that bad so as to stop me from perusing what I want? In the long run, is it going to matter? When you think in these terms, in most cases you will find that your fears are unwarranted for. This evaluation helps you in analysing strength of your choices and decisions. It will help you chose better, thereby also enhancing your risk taking abilities.

3.       Tame the Subconscious: Modify your thought process. Connect the goal of mitigating your fears to your heart and mind. Try to negate every fearful negative thought that is generated in your mind with a positive one. Try to look at the better, brighter perspective. Constantly remind yourself that your fears are not mightier than you, that you can handle anything, that you have the capabilities to do what you believe in and your fears are not a big enough hurdle to keep you from doing it.

4.       Believe: Lastly and most importantly, believe in your capabilities. Have faith in yourself that you can handle it, whatever happens. As saying goes, we should imagine the best, but be prepared for the worst. Your belief and faith is the greatest and in many cases the only tool needed for this preparation. Be sure of yourself and have a strong belief that you can handle any ups and downs that come your way. Keep courage and stick to your guns. Do what you believe in.

I know this is easier said than done. It is quite possible that you are not able to completely win over your fears. But what is important is that you develop the courage of not letting these fears affect your decision and prevent you from what you want in life.
