Are there any fictional characters whom you have emulated (or tried to)? Who and why?
Every time I read a book, I am inexplicably drawn to the characters in it. Every book I read influences me in ways that I myself can't explain. And many a time I have felt more than empathy for a character. There have been so many times I have felt myself transform into the character- do what the character does, feel what he/she feels. I have felt Elizabeth's righteous anger at Darcy and felt her love for him too. I have felt Dominique Francon's cool, collected demeanour seep into my veins every time I read The Fountainhead. I have felt Howard Roark's anger at mediocrity and selflessness. I have been as impassioned as John Galt as I read his speech. I have felt every fibre of my being go cold as I read Wuthering Heights. I have been to so many mystical magical lands, been so many different people and have been forced to come back to reality many a time.
I don't know if I will be able to just restrict myself to choice of just one fictional character. When I was a kid I have had my close friends tell me I resembled the tomboyish George from Enid Blyton's Famous Five series. As time progressed, I have had people liken me to many a character, but I have never felt a connection to just one. I have never felt the need to become just one person. I have tried to be all of them or should I say, I have tried to take the best from all of them and integrate it into my psyche. From, Holmes to Jeeves to Poirot to Elizabeth to Dominique and so many others, I have felt the need to take from all of them what I felt was good for me and I believe I have been successful so far. I believe every book I read invariably gets me one step closer to the person I am meant to be. :)
