This post has been written as part of the Tea For Two Tuesday creative prompt by Preeti Shenoy. To know about it, please visit here.
The table is set perfectly, for 'tea for two'. (and the piece of cake is ready too). I am really looking forward to this. There is still a good half an hour left for my guest to arrive as per the text I just got. Suddenly the door bell rings.
Irritated at the thought of seeing an uninvited guest, I lazily got up and opened the door. I was surprised to see Megha when I was looking forward to the visit from Rakesh.
“Hi Megha! What a pleasant surprise!!” I exclaimed.
Megha looked ready to explode. She said, "I did not come here to enjoy your hospitality. You have been cheating me for the past 6 months."
"What is it that you are talking about? I really don't get you."
"You make a damn good actress. We have been childhood friends and how could you think that I would not know if you are sleeping with my husband? I cannot turn a blind eye to it and give you the pleasure of thinking that I am a fool."
"But, you are mistaken. I have not cheated you. I really don't understand what made you think like this or who gave you such an idea. Please believe me Megha. I am innocent. Can't you trust your ONLY best friend?"
"I have enough proof of your affair with Rakesh. I am ending it with both of you. Let our paths not cross in future.”
Tears welled up in Megha's eyes as she said this. One tear fell off her eyes, rolled down her cheek and fell to the floor. As it fell, I heard a ding-dong sound, as the ring of my doorbell.
Ding-Dong- Ding-Dong.
"Oh God! I dozed off. Rakesh is here.” I thought excitedly.
Suddenly, the dream I had came flooding back to me along with its implications. As I got up from the chair to open the door, I decided that it is time to call it off with rakesh. After all, I cannot go on cheating my best friend forever.
