A Picture Post - Post 5

I am just back after a weekend trip to Udumalpet. Udumalpet or Udumalpettai or Udumalai is a small town in the state of Tamil Nadu. When I decided to go there to visit my relatives, I never imagined that the place has so much to offer. I was totally surprised and spellbound by its natural, scenic beauty. Unfortunately, I did not have a camera with me and my 8.0 megapixel mobile camera has not done total justice to the magnificence of the place. These are some of the pictures taken there by me.

This is a picture of the dam water as viewed from the top of the Thirumurthy dam. A part of it is covered by moss.

This is a picture of a portion of the Thirumurthy hills. It seems these green colored pastures too get completely filled with water during the monsoons, i.e by mid November.

A herd of goats that just walked past us :)

A more closer view of the herd

This is view of the park near the dam. Entry into the park was restricted and hence, we were unable to explore it :(

This is the area where people are allowed to swim and take bath. Unfortunately, we did not have time for a swim and had to be satisfied with the water lapping at our feet.

From here, we went on a drive to the Thirumurthy temple. By the time we reached there, it was raining heavily and I could not take any more pictures. The temple is surrounded by waterfalls on all sides and the water current was really high. Anyways, the experience was worth it. You can never imagine that a small town like Udumalpet can provide you with the same kind of visual treat as offered by the very famous Ooty or Kodai.

Palani is just a 45-minute drive from Udumalpet and we had a chance to visit the Muruka temple there. The temple is located up a hill and there are two options to go up there. One way is by climbing a thousand and one steps and the other option is to use a Winch. A winch looks like a train boggie and it can seat around 60 people at a time. We have to take tickets and wait for our turn to go up in the winch. While going up and coming down, the winch is at an angle of sixty degrees on the track and it goes extremely slow.

Altogether, this weekend was very enjoyable and lively and we never realised how the two days just flew by.
