Movie Review: Iron Man Three

Author : Sonal      Blog : Life in Technicolor      Date : 5/20/2013 6:13:00 PM

'A year ago, The Avengers came, saw and conquered the box office and its fans.  Iron Man Three sure looks to follow its path as Tony Stark is back in an all-new Iron Man adventure packed with enormous effects, many sidekicks and lots of quippy dialogue delivered in a style is uniquely Robert Downey Jr.'s.The events in New York that leaves the world and Tony Stark unsettled and that is not the place Stark hopes to find himself in.  He has high anxiety if anyone even mentions(...)'

Top 5 Films for Mother's Day

Author : Sonal      Blog : Life in Technicolor      Date : 5/12/2013 5:30:00 PM

'In most parts of the world today, Mother's Day is celebrated.  And as I'm sitting at home sick (having given my own mother the flu), I got to recalling some of my favorite films that feature great, moving and memorable mother-daughter relationships with her.5. Brave - One of the few animated feature films that contains a solid relationship between a mother and daughter.  In most animated feature films (see Disney films), the mother doesn't make past the first fifteen minut(...)'

'Meet the new Cinderella!  Walt Disney Pictures' new live action film on Cinderella cast its lead actress in Lily James (Downton Abbey) after their first choice Emma Watson passed on it.  The film has 2014 release and features Cate Blanchett as James' evil stepmother and will be directed by Kenneth Branagh.  Although my personal favorite Cinderella film still remains 1998's Ever After: A Cinderella Story featuring a kickass Drew Barrymore (bad English accent notwithsta(...)'

First clip of Pixar's upcoming short The Blue Umbrella

Author : Sonal      Blog : Life in Technicolor      Date : 5/2/2013 5:29:00 PM

'Here's a first clip from Disney Pixar's new short, The Blue Umbrella, due to debut in front of Monsters University this June. The official description says:It is just another evening commute until the rain starts to fall, and the city comes alive to the sound of dripping rain pipes, whistling awnings and gurgling gutters. And in the midst, two umbrellas—one blue, one not—fall eternally in love. I can hear the 'awws' in the theater already!  And it's also eerily reminiscent (...)'

New The Bling Ring Trailer!

Author : Sonal      Blog : Life in Technicolor      Date : 4/26/2013 2:30:00 AM

';;;; Oh, Hermione! The full trailer for Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring released this week (Sidebar: What is with all the new trailers lately? I’m positively overwhelmed with all this new footage) and it shows more of L.A.’s teen set behaving badly and robbing celebrity homes.  I also caught a brief glimpse of Leslie Mann playing someone’s mom, I’m not yet sure who.  I’m still not used to Emma Watson’s American accent, I really hope it grows on me and doesn’t distract from (...)'

News Update: Cannes Film Festival jury, Divergent and Shaun the Sheep!

Author : Sonal      Blog : Life in Technicolor      Date : 4/25/2013 6:14:00 PM

'(Photo: Oscars)The jury for the Cannes feature film competition was announced this past Tuesday. The members are directors Ang Lee, Cristian Mungiu, Lynne Ramsay, Naomi Kawase and actors Nicole Kidman, Christoph Waltz, Daniel Auteuil and Vidya Balan. I’m totally floating my theory again that Spielberg and Lee are actually besties. A couple of months ago, they were both competing for the DGA (which they both lost to Ben Affleck) and the Oscar (which went to Lee) and now they’re on(...)'

Revisting Sholay (1975)

Author : Sonal      Blog : Life in Technicolor      Date : 4/25/2013 5:28:00 PM

'Sholay is like a rite of passage if you're Indian.  You have to see it and if you don't you'll get a horrified look with an exclamation, "You haven't seen Sholay!"  I've been guilty of this myself and while I have seen Sholay before, I had never experienced it on the big screen.Yesterday though I crossed that off my list.  And what an experience it was.  From the first reel, nay, when the censor certificate first showed up on the screen, the hoots and whistl(...)'

Summer's Hottest Trailers: Man of Steel and Star Trek Into Darkness

Author : Sonal      Blog : Life in Technicolor      Date : 4/22/2013 2:30:00 AM

';;;; Are we sure Man of Steel is not really directed by Christopher Nolan and not just produced by him? Because this trailer bears all his marks. This origin story of Superman looks incredibly promising with first looks of  Krypton, his father Jor-El (Russell Crowe), his adoptive father on Earth (Kevin Costner), Zod (Michael Shannon) and Lois Lane (Amy Adams).  Could this Superman film do what Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy did for the Batman brand? And what does the 'S' stan(...)'

Movie Review: Celeste and Jesse Forever

Author : Sonal      Blog : Life in Technicolor      Date : 4/14/2013 6:52:00 PM

'Is there ever such a thing as "the perfect breakup"? Celeste and Jesse seem to think so.  They are best friends, constantly together and yet separated and in the process of a divorce.Their friends think it's weird for them to act as if nothing is the matter and continue on in their lives as before.  But of course things do not remain this way for long.  Celeste (Rashida Jones), a trend forecaster, and Jesse (Andy Samberg), an illustrator with no real direction, must m(...)'

Roger Ebert: The Balcony is Now Closed

Author : Sonal      Blog : Life in Technicolor      Date : 4/5/2013 4:59:00 PM

';;;; In a film released this year, Stand Up Guys, Al Pacino playing a character named Val says: They say we die twice. Once when the breath leaves our body, and once when the last person we know says our name. Film critic and author Roger Ebert who passed away on April 4th 2013 leaves behind such a legacy that his name will live on in the annals of film history and criticism. I discovered Ebert’s film review show way back in the ‘90s when ‘Siskel & Ebert’ used to play on Channe(...)'

Movie Review: Jurassic Park 3D

Author : Sonal      Blog : Life in Technicolor      Date : 4/5/2013 4:31:00 PM

'It has been 20 years since the first Jurassic Park film released in theaters to become a gigantic summer blockbuster and launched a dino-franchise that still holds steam today (Jurassic Park 4 is already in the works).  This week, the original Jurassic Park is back in theaters in a 3D avatar and while the 3D may seem unnecessary (I think that has to do more with the theater I watched it in. It will look awesome in IMAX), one can’t deny that even after all these years, the film(...)'

'So I haven't been able to make each review post individually but here's a look at some movies I saw in the past month. Based on the book, The 3 Mistakes of My Life, by best-selling author Chetan Bhagat, this film doesn't faithfully follow it.  However, it retains the feel and flow of the book which is about three friends in Ahmedabad, Gujarat who have aspirations to become something in their lives. The three boys are so different from one another: Omi (Amit Sadh) is defined by (...)'

'Big news coming out of Disney Pixar today! It's official...
