Raghav, there is a lot of scope for higher studies after pursuing Biotech from VIT. A lot of my friends have gone on to pursue MS and Phd in top universities in US and other places in the world like UK, Singapore etc by writing GRE, TOEFL, IELTS as the case may be.

Hi Maam,
I understand your worry about this issue. But from what I understand is that this lifespan was given for these universities to improve their standing failing which proper action would be taken. And VIT has improved a lot more based on whatever parameters were mentioned. I am sure that there wouldn't be any issue on this front which your son would have to face.

Yeah having desires and being happy does not necessarily lead to being greedy. But then somewhere down the line when the desires and wants go on increasing forever, greed sets in. So what I meant was greed and wants / desires are related in a way. Yeah as far as being happy or sad is concerned, those who indulge in such a thing are happy and satisfied for sure. Sometimes when their conscience strikes, they may realize but mostly in such cases, I doubt they even have a conscience.

Honestly pure Mechanical is the best. The other specialized branches are not that bad though I don't have that much idea about them.

Hi Rhea,
Sadly rules are strict. Some may call it being biased against girls but that's the way it is :(. Yes the rule says that one can't carry phones with camera but then most of the people do. If you are caught then a problem but otherwise people do manage.
As for placements, a large number of people get placed at packages of 3 - 3.5. And there are also people who get offers at 5+. But then those companies pick up few people.

Yeah it sounds a bit too much according to me as well. As far as I understand they would have the faculty and infrastructure to cope with this crowd though I guess a true picture can only be given by a current student. Its been 4 years since I left. What worries me the most is the placements with this kind of strength. I really hope they are taking care of that.

Haha yeah goiit has a number of posts like that all the time :). Biotechnology at VIT is one of the best in India I would say. The labs and the facilities are really among the best. But yes, if you are looking for placements there weren't really very great at least for core Biotech companies. I myself pursued Biotech and most of my batchmates preferred going for higher studies (MS, Phd etc.).

Honestly I would say VIT is better than those Bangalore colleges you mentioned. But then it depends on you what you want to go for. Since you are a resident of Bangalore, you would obviously like to stay there. ECE is quite a good course at VIT with good placements.

Dear sir,
600?? Have they really increased the intake that much?? :O Whoa. Honestly that's quite a lot in my opinion. During our times in first year classes had around 120 people but later on they had made batches of 60 each. That's 4 batches of a total of 240 students. That was in Biotech way back in 2006. So now obviously the situation must have a changed a lot.

Ankit, ECE in VIT is a good course. But if you getting the top IITs, BITS or any of the top NITs (Surathkal and Trichy), you could go for them. If not, then VIT is an awesome option :).

Thanks Shubham for the detailed situation during counselling. Just one question, the overall counselling now happens in VIT Chennai campus and not the Vellore campus, is it? Congrats for getting Mechanical which is by far the best branch at VIT :). And all the best for BITSAT..

Honestly I am not very sure about the admission process for the MS Software course. But I would say that you wouldn't get any great placement opportunities when compared to B.Tech CSE or other courses. Its not that its considered inferior or anything but just that recruiters may not find it that good enough.

BITS is obviously a better option. But you never know in case BITS doesn't work out. Spending money and losing quite a bit of it or sitting for another year, you have to make your choice :).

But if you don't get in BITS or CET, what do you do? Wait for another year or be ok with losing money at VIT, its your call :). The fees during our times was around 4 lacs. But obviously that's a long long time ago. Could any current student help with the exact fee figures here please?

From what I can think you have a good chance of getting branches like Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Biomedical etc. CSE and Instrumentation Engineering could have some chances as well.

- Yes there are lots of Keralities Sameer :).
- There are many chances when people go home during short or long holidays
- Yeah one can stay in hostels or there are many options outside the college as well. But obviously a large portion prefer hostels because of the facilities provided though its on the expensive side.
And honestly, don't limit yourself just to people from your homestate. VIT has a huge population of people from different states of India and many countries o(...)

As I have said in earlier comments as well, Mechanical with Automotive is good. But taking pure Mechanical opens your chances to various fields and not only automotive. Honestly, I am not very sure about BITS Dubai. But I would definitely rate VIT at a much better level than BITS Dubai for sure. You have got quiet an awesome rank. Congrats :). Sadly the Wi Fi in the hostel isn't really free. There are download speed restrictions and also certain packages for which you have to pay. But am not exactly sure of the different amounts.

Both colleges are good in their respective fields. But I would honestly say that VIT is a better option anyday :).
